After the 7.8 Magnitude earthquake occurred on 6 February 2023 in Pazarcik District of Kahramanmaras Province (south-eastern Turkey) close to the border with northern Syria.
According to the latest report of AFAD, as of 7 February, in Türkiye, 5,434 people have died, and more than 31,777 persons have been injured across the Provinces of Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis and Malatya.
In Northwest Syria, UN OCHA reports at least 1,500 deaths and 3,000 injuries with the amount climbing. Preliminary assessments indicate that the sub-districts of Harim, Atmeh, Sarmada, Atareb, and Kafr Takharim are among the worst hit areas.
Primary needs identified include: heavy machines for debris removal, cash distribution, tents, isolation sheets and NFIs, heating materials, emergency food and bread assistance, water trucking and garbage removals, ambulances and medicines, fuel for hospitals and health centers, reception centers for IDPs.
